Latin American Evening

Second evening in Keric was called Latin American. All participants met together in the Underground. There were chairs in half-circle and a few paper sheets on the carpet.
What is it…?
Volunteers from Uruguay and Brasil Jean, Rodolfo, Giovana and Loren prepared for us quiz.
We made two groups. Our answers were sometimes good, sometimes not…
“What is in the picture?” A modern building looking like a prickled ring is a cathedral!
“Who is this pretty woman?” - “… is not a movie star, but
the president!”
Next tasks were about Atacama /the driest place in the world/, icebergs in Argentina, languages of South America, nationalities of this area, Andes, water-falls…
This far continent is very exciting for us.. Nature, culture, politics…
... many people know many answers.
After this competition Loren cooked for us typical Uruguaian fried cakes. We had a discussion about Latin America with real Latinamericans…
For us, citizens of middle-Europe, it was a nice, interesting and pleasant evening.

Sunday - The media day

On Sunday morning we learnt some new possibilities on the internet and we shared our special folk dictionary with the whole world with the help of our new friend (the google). If you were quick enough you could check your e-mails too because our computer teacher, Mirka was easy-going about this.
Afterward, we tasted a fruit salad from 2006 and we tried to move as we talk.
Our flexible English teacher, Ivka recognized we needed some sunshine and fresh air to get some energy. She taught us English outside, in front of the Keric underground. We were divided three 3 groups and some of us had a really shadowy experience of prepositions.
After a chicken salad or a little tree all of us got a delicious dessert.
We could spend our free time as we wanted. We were invited to a TV show at 3 o` clock where the director was really interested in our organizations and the producer was strict. If you had corrected your English with Ivka you could speak about your organization in the right way in English.
We came back from the TV studio after 5 p.m. If you survived our dangerous dinner with fish bones you had to join our journalist team and write something about our common experience.
If you prefer the countryside and improve your Slovak you could go for a walk to the forest. If you were there you discovered a stream of mineral water. If you were the lucky one you could take part in a private party and you could meet 5 Brazilians and an Uruguayan (who spoke on her own in Spanish) at the same time.

Visit in Majova street

On Saturday afternoon we visited our friends Loren, Giovana and Rodolfo in their flat in Majova street. They are volunteers from Latin America. Giovana and Rodolfo come from Brasil and Loren comes from Uruguay. They welcame us very hearty and we spent a nice time with them.
At the beginning they prepared a strong Brasilian coffee for us and a traditional food – guana with cheese. Loren baked great cakes – she obtained the recipe for it from her grandmother.

Despite the problems with the language, we discussed a lot and found out interesting information about their lives, families and social or political situation in their countries. Thanks to this information, we changed our opinion on these countries and Latin America completely.
At the end of the visit we thanked our friends for their hospitality. Maybe we will meet together in the future again.

Our visit in Kycerka

On Saturday was our group invited to visit a flat of KERICs´volunteers Jean, Ria and Sandra. They live in a block of flats in a housing estate outside the centre of Cadca. Before our walk we got some instructions on a piece of paper and it was very funny when Sandra switched the expression "listové cesto" (dough) for "cestovny listok" (travel ticket) . Inspite of this we came right to them with some food bought in TERNO. Three volunteers were waiting for us and welcame us in a 7-th-floor-flat. There was a very beautiful view of the city with an interesting church and the mountains around. Their flat was nice and big, furnished according to students´ taste. We ate, drank and talked. The time was spent in a pleasant way and in the evening we went all together back to KERIC.

Saturday

We continued in our language and computer lessons in the early morning. We were again divided into two groups, but our tasks were similar. During the computer lessons we prepared our PowerPoint presentations about traditional folk things, which we found on the market on Friday. We learnt how to work with sounds and voices in doing so. During the English lessons we practised conditional and communication skills, present simple and present continues.
After the coffee break we had to do an English test to evaluate ourselves.
We talked about the Youth in Action Program during our afternoon session. We shared our experience and examples of good practice. It was really useful for us. Some participants are planning common cooperation in the future.

European evening

On 20th June 2008 we had a European evening. This evening was lead by two of Keric´s volunteers – Ria and Sandra.
Sandra comes from Austria. She is 19 years. Ria comes from Germany. She is also 19 years old.

They arrived in Cadca last September and next month they goes back to their countries.

Our evening started with a perfect energizer. We Danced. After this energizer we were dividend into pairs. My partner was Iren. Our first task was oriented on sport. We had wrote down names of famous Austrian and German sportsmen. The second question was about the result of Monday´s match between Austria and Germany at The European f. championship.
we found our second task on the second bench in the park. This task was about culture and sightseeing. Iren has traveled a lot, so she knows a lot of interesting places. We did this task very fast. The third task was sticked on the house, where Loren and Giovana live. This task was about food and their typical cuisine. When we wrote down our answers we followed our instructions. After a few meters we met Ria and she asked us about Austrian and German history. This task was very difficult for me, because I´m really bad at this subject.
Next letter was waiting for us next to the new ice-cream stand. Questions, which we found there, were about famous people from their history. It was very easy and we did it fast.
Our last station was in front of the House of culture. Ria was waiting for us. She had prepared a geographical test. We had to put the neighbours countries of Austria and Germany.
in a correct order. When we did it, we came back to Keric to fulfill our last task.
After that we had an evaluation.

This evening was very interesting and very nice.

Market

Before lunch we were divided into three groups. A new exciting task for us. Each group chose its own leader with a camera. Before our departure from KERIC we received some instructions and clues what is needed to do and then we fulfiled them.
A very nice market place was the main square. A lot of stands of traditional folk art were there. We coulde see there: wooden dishes, decorated Easter eggs, honey cakes, dolls dressed in folk costumes, metal bells, carved wooden figures, wickery products.
We had to take photos of some of these handcraft products at first. We knew only a few names of them and that`s why the task for the next day was to work with the dictionary and to find out the correct names of these interesting folk products.

Working programme Friday

My name is Giovanna, I live in Cadca, I´m on a weekly training of English and Informatcs. My task is this exercise talking about the activities carried out in the classroom on Friday.
My first activity was on Present Simple, with its I learnt that always use typical words: Every, Always, Never, Usually, Often, Regulary, Rarely…
I also learned about Present Continuous (be + verb + ing) Ex: Typical words: Now, at the moment, this week, today, these days.
During the English classe, we also did our first video, in this video, we talked a little about ourselves, was more interesting because is a different form to learn. After that, talked about our mistakes.
Another method was interesting: We were divided into groups and each group
had to talk about objects that we don´t use every day.
The classes are great and I'm learning a lot.

I will to speak a little about our classes of informatics which are divided into two groups. My group are: Me, Jirina, Irine, Katka, Lada and Jitka.
We learned how to work with the EXCEL, Calculator Program, Formuls, etc…
The Excel is a very good programme and the lessons are great…..

Capoira evening

About capoeira evening.

On Thursday we had a special evening programme. New volunteers in Keric Rodolfo and Giovanna prepared for us a Brasilian surprise. It was a capoeira evening in Keric.
Capoeira is a dance and game and fight too.
We met in the blue room in Keric and we were full of expectation. I was looking forward to this evening, not only to the dancing, but also to Rodolfo and Giovanna managing the evening . Both of them were very nervous because I think – it was the first lesson for them wof teaching of capoeira.
At first, we made a circle and we started with a first basic movement. We made six or eight exercises and then we started with capoeira. We had a chance to try it. Rodolfo taught us new steps and Giovanna helping him. We underestood quickly everything new and started to enjoy it ourselves. Capoeira is great because it is an open flow ofenergy. We had interesting possibilities to move our bodies. Capoeira is for me very funny and nice and I like it very much. Bye, Lada :-)))

Thursday

Group "B" started English lesson on Thursday morning. They practiced a lot of collocations -finishing sentences through a domino game was very useful for their grammar skills. Then they tried to understand the differences between verbs: SAY, TELL, SPEAK and TALK. In the end of the morning session they described 5 main human senses.
During PC lesson they created blogger - own web site where they added various elements, web albums, profiles, links, details about themselves etc. The result of their hard work on net was a more developed and better designed web site.
In the afternoon they again paid attention to grammar: they learned present simple and present continue.
Group "A" dealt with verbs and nouns created from them. More complicated was part II – conditionals connected with the probability of filling the conditions.
During PC lesson they learned how useful it can be to use a calendar in their google account.
You can see that also Thursday was a day full of new information and skills.

18 latin-american evening

18 day

In second day

I am very happy to visit this English and computer course, because last year I learnt a lot. Mirka and Ivka were very sympathetic and good example for me.

My English developed, I speak much better butI still make mistakes.

We work in two groups A and B, and change computer lessons and English lessons.

This year, our group was a little bit different, because we were from three countries, but from Hungary we were only two participants. Our pension was comfortable. The restaurant where we had lunch and dinner is very popular in Cadca.

I am very happy what I learnt about google. I understood Mirka's explanation very well. Google is an important tool for us. If we have an event we send only a link for participants and they can receive all information from internet.

I enjoy our English lessons. It would be great if I could find similar teacher as Ivka in Győr.

Atmosphere of Underground was very nice. A good idea was to take tea and coffee in underground, during coffe break we had to move a little bit.

Opening day and CASINO evening

Hi everybody, I’m Jitka and I met the first other participants of ADD IT training on the train during the way to Čadca. And that was really funny and beautiful beginning of this action.

The official opening was very nice and kind. Ivka and Mirka prepared for us an exposition of pictures from our first training in KERIC. We found very nice, funny and interested situations there. We talked about it to other people and so introduced ourself and our last trainings.

We took part in the games “in CASINO” in the evening. We put wooden pieces in a tower, the second group played cards and the third group played the game “ROLIT” with a dice and marbles.

The last part of this day was game “Werevolves”. We were in roles us “werevolves”, “witches”, “villagers”, “lover”, “little girls” or “hunters” there. We needed to find wehrvolves and to save people from the village. That was really hard work, time for discussion and the winners were werevolves every time.
