Latin American Evening

Second evening in Keric was called Latin American. All participants met together in the Underground. There were chairs in half-circle and a few paper sheets on the carpet.
What is it…?
Volunteers from Uruguay and Brasil Jean, Rodolfo, Giovana and Loren prepared for us quiz.
We made two groups. Our answers were sometimes good, sometimes not…
“What is in the picture?” A modern building looking like a prickled ring is a cathedral!
“Who is this pretty woman?” - “… is not a movie star, but
the president!”
Next tasks were about Atacama /the driest place in the world/, icebergs in Argentina, languages of South America, nationalities of this area, Andes, water-falls…
This far continent is very exciting for us.. Nature, culture, politics…
... many people know many answers.
After this competition Loren cooked for us typical Uruguaian fried cakes. We had a discussion about Latin America with real Latinamericans…
For us, citizens of middle-Europe, it was a nice, interesting and pleasant evening.

Sunday - The media day

On Sunday morning we learnt some new possibilities on the internet and we shared our special folk dictionary with the whole world with the help of our new friend (the google). If you were quick enough you could check your e-mails too because our computer teacher, Mirka was easy-going about this.
Afterward, we tasted a fruit salad from 2006 and we tried to move as we talk.
Our flexible English teacher, Ivka recognized we needed some sunshine and fresh air to get some energy. She taught us English outside, in front of the Keric underground. We were divided three 3 groups and some of us had a really shadowy experience of prepositions.
After a chicken salad or a little tree all of us got a delicious dessert.
We could spend our free time as we wanted. We were invited to a TV show at 3 o` clock where the director was really interested in our organizations and the producer was strict. If you had corrected your English with Ivka you could speak about your organization in the right way in English.
We came back from the TV studio after 5 p.m. If you survived our dangerous dinner with fish bones you had to join our journalist team and write something about our common experience.
If you prefer the countryside and improve your Slovak you could go for a walk to the forest. If you were there you discovered a stream of mineral water. If you were the lucky one you could take part in a private party and you could meet 5 Brazilians and an Uruguayan (who spoke on her own in Spanish) at the same time.

Visit in Majova street

On Saturday afternoon we visited our friends Loren, Giovana and Rodolfo in their flat in Majova street. They are volunteers from Latin America. Giovana and Rodolfo come from Brasil and Loren comes from Uruguay. They welcame us very hearty and we spent a nice time with them.
At the beginning they prepared a strong Brasilian coffee for us and a traditional food – guana with cheese. Loren baked great cakes – she obtained the recipe for it from her grandmother.

Despite the problems with the language, we discussed a lot and found out interesting information about their lives, families and social or political situation in their countries. Thanks to this information, we changed our opinion on these countries and Latin America completely.
At the end of the visit we thanked our friends for their hospitality. Maybe we will meet together in the future again.

Our visit in Kycerka

On Saturday was our group invited to visit a flat of KERICs´volunteers Jean, Ria and Sandra. They live in a block of flats in a housing estate outside the centre of Cadca. Before our walk we got some instructions on a piece of paper and it was very funny when Sandra switched the expression "listovĂ© cesto" (dough) for "cestovny listok" (travel ticket) . Inspite of this we came right to them with some food bought in TERNO. Three volunteers were waiting for us and welcame us in a 7-th-floor-flat. There was a very beautiful view of the city with an interesting church and the mountains around. Their flat was nice and big, furnished according to students´ taste. We ate, drank and talked. The time was spent in a pleasant way and in the evening we went all together back to KERIC.

Saturday

We continued in our language and computer lessons in the early morning. We were again divided into two groups, but our tasks were similar. During the computer lessons we prepared our PowerPoint presentations about traditional folk things, which we found on the market on Friday. We learnt how to work with sounds and voices in doing so. During the English lessons we practised conditional and communication skills, present simple and present continues.
After the coffee break we had to do an English test to evaluate ourselves.
We talked about the Youth in Action Program during our afternoon session. We shared our experience and examples of good practice. It was really useful for us. Some participants are planning common cooperation in the future.
